SDET Manager (Quality Engineering / Test Automation)

Location: The Woodlands Texas

Reports To: President of intelliSPEC

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, Hybrid – 3 days in office; 40 hours weekly

Travel:   Minimal – 5%

About the Role

As an SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) Manager, you will lead IntelliSPEC’s Quality Engineering function and ensure our platform ships with predictable quality, reliability, and performance. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people management, building test automation systems, quality practices, and engineering standards that scale across teams and value streams.

You will operate at the intersection of engineering execution, DevOps, and security, embedding quality into every stage of the software delivery lifecycle while enabling fast, safe, and confident releases.

The Team

You will join IntelliSPEC’s Product and Technology organization, working closely with Engineering, Product Management, Architecture, DevOps, Security, and Operations leaders. The environment is execution-focused and built around solving complex industrial problems at scale, including offline-first mobile workflows, safety-critical systems, and compliance-driven delivery.

What We’re Looking For – Required

  • 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering, SDET, or software engineering with a strong testing and automation focus
  • 3+ years of experience leading and managing SDET or QA automation teams
  • Proven experience building scalable test automation strategies across UI, API, integration, and end-to-end testing layers
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Hands-on experience with modern test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, or REST API frameworks
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab
  • Strong understanding of Agile software delivery, cloud-native architectures, and microservices
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence engineering leaders and align stakeholders

What We’re Looking For – Preferred

  • Experience with performance and load testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or Gatling
  • Experience partnering with security teams on SAST, DAST, and dependency scanning
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS), containers, and Kubernetes
  • Background in enterprise, industrial, or regulated environments

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing SDET team
  • Define and own IntelliSPEC’s quality engineering strategy and standards
  • Build and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks
  • Embed automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define acceptance criteria and definition of done
  • Establish quality metrics and dashboards to track product health
  • Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives and data-driven insights
