About the job

The Fraud & Financial Crimes team is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to design, build, and support scalable automated test frameworks, tools, and test suites to ensure quality within expected timelines during the development cycle.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)- you will:

  • Create and maintain high quality test automation using modern development techniques, both inside and outside of the CDP and provide key data points to support metric-based decision making.
  • Apply automated tests at every layer of the application stack, both inside and outside of the continuous delivery pipeline
  • Produce and analyze metrics that illustrate the quality of applications and develop insight that drives the direction of quality engineering.
  • Works with team to promptly triage test failures with precision and accuracy, maintaining the health of the build pipeline.
  • Work collaboratively with Development, Product and DevOps teams to promptly triage test failures with precision and accuracy, maintaining the health of the build pipeline.
  • Engage in code reviews for product, test, and infrastructure code.
  • Understand the role of deployment, migration, security, and performance in the continuous delivery lifecycle.
  • Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related quantitative field
  • 8+ years of experience developing automated tests
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment, including planning and delivery of commitments
  • Experience with Test design and implementation for web-based microservices, REST interfaces, and the OpenAPI specification
  • Experience working with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes in combination with cloud deployments on AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience with SQL and one of more of the following databases: Oracle, MSSQL, DB2, or PostgreSQL
  • Proficiency with source control management techniques (including branching, code review, and merging.
  • Improve mean time to resolution by leading triage with precision and accuracy, maintaining the health of the build pipeline
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills

  • Advanced proficiency in one, familiarity with multiple programming languages such as Java, Python or Go
  • Demonstrated ability to distinguish between testing layers, match the correct approach to each situation, and design effective quality gates based on these layers.
  • Expert in one test automation framework demonstrating the ability to create shareable code.
  • Familiarity with the latest generation SAS Viya platform and the SAS language.
  • Familiarity with test frameworks such as Playwright or REST Assured used for testing software in a CI/CD pipeline
  • Familiarity with modern IDEs such as IntelliJ or VSCode
  • Adaptability- Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment (e.g., people, processes, structure, or culture); adjusting effectively to change by exploring the benefits, trying new approaches, and collaborating with others to make the change successful.
  • Decision Making- Identifying and understanding problems and opportunities by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information; choosing the best course of action by establishing clear decision criteria, generating and evaluating alternatives, and making timely decisions; taking action that is consistent with available facts and constraints and optimizes probable consequences. 
  • Collaborating- Working cooperatively with others to help a team or work group achieve its goals.
