The Work 

The QA Automation Engineer designs automated tests by creating scripts that run testing functions automatically. This includes determining the priority for test scenarios and creating execution plans to implement these scenarios. The QA Automation Engineer also designs documentation for automated processes. 

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse. 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities  

  • Create, execute, and maintain automated testing scripts to ensure software runs smoothly and meets client needs 
  • Identifyanalyze and create detailed records of problems that appear during testing, such as defects, bugs, errors, and inconsistencies 
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved 
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs 
  • Review system requirements and track quality assurance metrics 
  • Collaborate with the software development team to ensure the software meets quality standards 
  • Prepare reports on all aspects related to the software testing carried out and reporting to the design team 
  • Participate in product design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, and potential problems 
  • Ensure that any new software integration into the company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications 
  • Conduct post-release/ post-implementation testing 
  • Collaborate with the team to improve the company’s quality assurance processes and practices 
  • Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Level 1: 1-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.   
  • Level 2: 4-7 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.  Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.   
  • Level 3: 8 or more years of experience, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, independently performs a variety of complicated tasks; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • Proven work experience in software development and software quality assurance 
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools and processes 
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools 
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment. 

Minimum Skills: 

  • Experience in designing and developing test cases, test plans, and test scripts to ensure the quality of software applications. 
  • Good understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and software testing lifecycle (STLC). 
  • Solid knowledge of SQL and scripting 
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process 
  • Strong knowledge in scripting and programming languages like Python, Java, and JavaScript to write and execute automated tests. 
  • Highly skilled in using automation frameworks like Selenium, TestNG, Junit, and tools like Jenkins for continuous integration. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.  
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.   
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.  
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort. 
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.  

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer ScienceEngineeringor related field. 
  • Experience with performance and/or security testing is a plus 
  • Experience in roles such as Software Tester, QA Analyst, or other IT-related roles 
  • Experience integrating QA processes within the software development workflow 
  • Advanced understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes 
  • Certified Software Tester (CST) or Certified Software Quality Analyst (CSQA) a plus

Working Conditions  

  • Professional office environment, with the ability to work on-site in the main office. 
  • Must reside in the Austin area.  
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.  
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace. 
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen. 
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays. 
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes. 
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours. 
  • Travel costs, per diem, and other related expenses must be pre-approved in compliance with State of Texas travel guidelines.

Pay Range

USD $100,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
